What your Airbnb reviews are actually telling you
The useful signal often sits in the polite sentence before the star rating.
Read for friction
Guests soften criticism. “A little tricky to find” may mean the arrival instructions failed. “Cozy” may mean the room felt smaller than the photos suggested. Look for repeated friction, not dramatic language.
Separate the fix from the reply
A thoughtful public response matters. The operational change matters more. Record the issue, assign the fix, and check whether later reviews mention it again.
Patterns beat anecdotes
One unusual complaint may be noise. Three similar comments are a system telling you something. Group feedback by arrival, cleanliness, comfort, accuracy, and communication to see where the property is drifting.
